Dominican University Sustainable Practices Certificate

SEI supported Dominican University of California's in their launch of a regional sustainability certificate program.

Dominican University's Professional and Continuing Education Department offers a multi-disciplinary certificate program for Bay Area professionals and young adults seeking to enter or transition into an environmental career or simply to green their existing business practice so as to differentiate themselves within their field.

This program is an outgrowth of program research and program design support provided to Dominican University of California in 2007 and 2008 by SEI under a grant from the Marin Community Foundation. The Marin Community Foundation also generously provided additional funding to support the launch of this program in Fall of 2008.

This university-accredited program draws from Dominican course offerings, along with courses from area partner academic institutions, to provide a core background in environmental issues, elective courses, workshops, and trainings selected by the enrollees to suit their individual needs. The program also requires that students demonstrate an application of their learning through either a capstone project (e.g. research and development of a business case for greening a current organization) or an internship where enrollees are placed within pre-screened, program-affiliated area employers.  Both the capstone project and the internship are designed to give enrollees practical experience applying what they've learned in the program in a manner that best fits their current work situation and/or career development goals.

There are three primary focus areas that Dominican targets for this certificate program, each with distinct program/course offerings: Applied Professions, Education, or Lifestyles.

For more information about the Certificate program or to enroll in any of the upcoming course sequences please visit the program website.
