Helping Communities Embrace Sustainability
Green Housing
There is significant potential for creating green and healthy environments in our existing housing stock. Green building techniques have become essential strategies for improving housing performance. SEI staff and technical partners seek to expand a housing owner’s capacity to optimize the operational efficiency of their buildings, making it a showcase of sustainability. By engaging the right technical assistance and leveraging utility and government resources, we realize quantifiable energy and cost savings as well as environmental benefits.
SEI, in partnership with the Marin Community Foundation and EAH Housing, has launched the Marin Energy Efficiency Program for Affordable Housing.
The program will include multiple projects, all dedicated towards (1) increasing energy and water efficiency and reducing long-term operating expenses for affordable housing; (2) increasing resident comfort and reducing residents' utility bills; (3) leveraging the collective resources of government and utility programs; and (4) reducing Marin’s carbon emissions and incorporating sustainability into affordable housing operations.
SEI is working with an innovative Bay Area public housing authority to implement a full range of energy services and energy-related capital improvements, financed through a combination of loans supported by the savings and subsidies from private utilities, local, state and/or federal governments and associated public agencies.
SEI delivers its expertise in effective energy efficiency education strategies to participants of Energy Upgrade California - San Diego Multi-Family Program with a focused, hands-on educational experience. Through this supportive program, SEI empowers residents with the knowledge and resources to make energy-wise decisions that will save money on utility bills, while tenants play fundamental roles mitigating the climate change crisis.
SEI serves as the implementer for the Home Energy Tune-Up program, a program in Fresno, Kern, Kings, and Tulare Counties to promote residential energy efficiency upgrades, funded by the California Energy Commission. The program provides free home energy surveys to homeowners, resources for homeowners to learn about rebates and financing for home energy upgrades, and significant training opportunities for local contractors to become BPI-certified, which equips them to perform home energy surveys and offer substantial rebates to homeowners. The Home Energy Tune-Up program is offered in partnership with Energy Upgrade California.
SEI is an ideal partner in creating a significant impact through a project that touches so many communities.
