Helping Communities Embrace Sustainability
Sustainable Communities
Climate change and rising energy costs have brought resource efficiency to the forefront of many communities' agendas. We work with municipalities to empower communities to work in new ways to save resources and money while leveraging locally sourced talent and assets. SEI’s staff can help move your community towards greater sustainability by providing exceptional technical assistance, leveraging resources, and building community engagement.
SEI is taking a lead in helping the home performance industry grow its workforce. HERO seeks to develop innovative and replicable approaches to support more effective workforce development for the Home Performance Industry.
We’ve partnered with Optony to lead the Southwest Solar Transformation Initiative (SSTI) with a regional team of public and private entities committed to advancing solar power adoption across participating municipalities in the Southwest. As part of this effort, the SEI team will direct university students as they research solar market issues for the region, initially working with a team from University of Nevada, Los Vegas (UNLV). In addition, SEI staff will engage regional councils of governments and their municipal members in the San Joaquin Valley of California, and in parts of Colorado, Nevada and Utah.
SEI in partnership with Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) manages an innovative AmeriCorps Program called Climate Corps Bay Area (CCBA).
Our institutions of higher education represent significant intellectual and social capital for nearby communities, while at the same time, faculty are seeking opportunities to provide students with relevant and place-based sustainability challenges to address. Through the CUSP approach, SEI staff seeks to bring campuses and municipal partners together.
SEI is part of an innovative partnership of East Bay Cities who received funding under EPA’s Climate Showcase Communities Grant for their proposal, the Small Cities Climate Action Partnership (SCCAP).
Through funding from the PG&E Innovator Pilot Program grant, SEI has the opportunity to expand the Small Cities Climate Action Partnership and pilot an innovative model for delivering energy management services to small cities in California.
SEI served as an integral part of a team of San Joaquin Valley-based clean energy advocates that collaborated to establish a regional clean energy support catalyst for the SJ Valley. Once established, SEI staff provided technical consulting and implementation support for needed clean energy planning and pilot projects with select Valley municipal and agricultural communities.
