Sustainability Curriculum - Grades K-1

This sustainability curriculum explores the fundamental concepts of sustainability through 11 interactive, hands-on lessons about climate change, energy, waste, water, and transportation. The adaptable lessons allow the curriculum to span multiple standards, class schedules, student skill levels, and background knowledge. Concepts covered in the curriculum include the importance of protecting Earth’s natural resources, air pollution, global warming, the greenhouse effect, waste management, the water cycle, and green transportation. Examples for this sustainability curriculum of experiential activities include a greenhouse effect demonstration, creating a waste bin, designing “Don’t Litter” posters, and experimenting with the three phases of water.
