- SEI supported EAH Housing benchmarking efforts by completing setup of all 104 EAH Housing properties throughout California and Hawaii in the EPA’s Portfolio Manager benchmarking tool to track energy and water consumption and cost.
- Benchmarking is one of the first steps to ensure resource efficiency for these properties, which improves the quality of life and energy savings for affordable housing residents
- The Green Team at the EAH San Clemente Place Housing Community located in Corte Madera is made up of diverse group of elementary and middle school aged boys and girls from the housing community. The Green Team members are inquisitive and energetic and we work to put that energy towards learning with hands on activities related to water science and issues. To begin, we created a poster with a number of ways that they commonly use water from drinking and cooking to water used to create energy and the clothes they were wearing. After creating some common ground about how water is used, we did a few experiments to illustrate important water concepts, such as creating a model of the water cycle to start a discussion of how the water cycle works. We also did a simple experiment to illustrate the concept of capillary action and how capillary action works in plants as they take up water with their roots.
