GRID Alternatives Marin Outreach and Implementation Services

Starting in 2013, SEI worked with GRID Alternatives to provide outreach and implementation services to facilitate and increase solar installations among low-income homeowners in Marin.

SEI will look to expand the delivery of the statewide Single-family Affordable Solar Homes (SASH) program managed by GRID Alternatives, which is a part of the California Solar Initiative. Through 2016, SASH will provide higher solar rebates for up to 7,000 low-income homeowners in California. SEI will be help implement this initiative in Marin through the following tasks:

  • Creating a database of below market rate homeownership developments
  • Hosting an affordable housing developer convening to facilitate local implementation, generate new partnerships and build upon existing support
  • Determining approval processes and opportunities to work with homeowner associations to expand program access to qualified tenants living under association-owned shared-roof buildings

The project culminated on May 14, 2013 with the solar installation at Bonnie Campbellā€™s residence in Meadow Park. After reaching an agreement with the Meadow Park HOA, this installation marks the first time a Marin HOA has permitted solar to be installed on a shared roof in an affordable housing development. The achievement has been featured in the California Solar Initiative (CSI) newsletter on April 2, 2013 and the Marin Independent Journal on May 22, 2013.
